i have been a reporter for parts of five decades, starting in the late 1980s. that much time in this profession means you have covered just about anything at some point.
my beat is basically everything, but having spent most of my career working in southwestern nova scotia, i do a fair bit of reporting on agriculture. i also cover crime, the courts, general and breaking news, anything where statistics can come into play, and environmental issues and the negative impacts we are having on the planet by not consistently working to combat climate change.
past highlights:
i spent weeks covering the arrival of kosovar refugees in the annapolis valley in 1999, and reconnected with some of them when they returned for a visit in 2024. my coverage of a serial sexual offender led to four more victims coming forward to police and his conviction on charges involving five women, leading to a sentence of more than 11 years in prison.
