diseases and conditions are terms used to describe poor health and the cause behind it. diseases are medical conditions that have a clear-cut cause whereas the term condition is used to describe the state of health that is driven by a specific disease. many people see these two terms as interchangeable, but they are not the same thing.
there are many diseases, each one falling into one specific disease category characterized by its driving force:
• infectious
• hereditary diseases (genetic or non-genetic)
• physiological diseases
• communicable and non-communicable diseases
the symptoms associated with diseases and conditions vary widely because diseases is such an umbrella term. in some cases, a disease can have mild symptoms that are highly manageable and in others, a disease is severe and life-threatening. other types of diseases, including chronic, may range from mild to severe but are not life-threatening and have to be managed over the course of one’s life.
when looking at current therapies for diseases and conditions, the common mainstay is some type of medical intervention, whether it be medication, surgeries, or other medical procedures. medical professionals often recommend healthy lifestyle practices alongside medical intervention, including:
• eating a healthy diet full of nutrient-rich foods
• maintaining a healthy weight
• exercising regularly
• avoiding the consumption of toxic substances, including alcohol and drugs
• getting enough time outdoors
• establishing and maintaining healthy relationships
while not all diseases and their ensuing conditions can be prevented, learning how to care for oneself before the onset of a disease is critical when staying healthier for longer.
all but two diseases, smallpox and rinderpest, don't have cures, so medical advancements of today continue to work tirelessly around the clock to create therapies as well as establish causal factors that can drive the onset of disease in an effort to lower a person’s risk of developing a deadly of life-long disease while eradicating the conditions that these diseases cause.
