police charge man in 2025 north preston homicide of jayden anthony tynes

a 29-year-old cole harbour man has been charged in connection with a homicide in north preston last year.
rcmp said thursday that they have charged daqronn lamar beals with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 28-year-old jayden anthony tynes on nov. 2, 2025.
rcmp were called at 5 p.m. that day to a report of shots fired near the intersection of cain and clarence streets. they found tynes suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. he died later in hospital.
cpl. mandy edwards said rcmp arrested beals wednesday at 5:30 a.m. near the halifax shopping centre with the assistance of the halifax regional police emergency response team.
he was held in custody and will appear in halifax bail court thursday.
“this arrest marks a significant step in our investigation and we hope it brings some measure of comfort to jayden’s family, who have endured an unimaginable loss,” sgt. shawn stanton of the joint rcmp/hrp integrated homicide unit said in a news release.
“while charges have now been laid, the investigation remains ongoing, and we continue to seek details from anyone who may have knowledge of the circumstances surrounding jayden’s homicide.”
beals made a brief appearance in halifax bail court thursday afternoon via a video link from the dartmouth jail.
at the request of crown attorney lauren lindsay, judge del atwood ordered beals to have no contact with six potential witnesses.
beals plans to apply to nova scotia legal aid for a lawyer and hopes to have counsel retained before he appears in dartmouth provincial court aug. 24.
the next step in provincial court is to set dates for a preliminary inquiry, which will determine if there is sufficient evidence to proceed to nova scotia supreme court for a jury trial.
if beals wants bail, he will have to make an application in supreme court.

nine days ago there was a shooting at the same intersection. no one was injured and no charges have been laid.
edwards said that as of thursday police have not identified any correlation between the tynes homicide and the most recent shooting or any others in recent months in the community.
