man suffers serious injuries in surrey police shooting

a man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being shot by police on wednesday in surrey.
according to initial information from the rcmp, officers from its surrey unit responded to the 14100-block of melrose drive after a report of a distressed man who had left a home with “an edged weapon.”
police found the man at 8:02 p.m. near 111a avenue and wallace drive.
“there was then an interaction which resulted in a conducted weapon energy (taser) deployment and shots being fired by police,” said a statement from the independent investigations office of b.c.
the iiobc investigates incidents in b.c. involving police that result in serious harm or death.
anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the iiobc’s witness line at 1-855-446-8477.
