carolina hurricanes star sean walker brought the stanley cup and some smiles to young fans at a newmarket hospital.
the defenceman arrived at southlake health with the nhl’s top trophy on wednesday and visited with pediatric patients and their families.
walker, a keswick native who played hockey in york region, also signed autographs and posed for photos with patients and staff.

‘time well spent’

for the 31-year-old nhler, bringing the iconic trophy back to the communities where his journey began made the day especially significant.
“it’s an incredible honour to bring the stanley cup home to georgina, but what makes it even more meaningful is the opportunity to spend time with patients and families at southlake,” walker said, according to a southlake 世界杯决赛2022 release.
“hospital visits and stays can be challenging, especially for kids, and if this visit can bring a few smiles, create some special memories and brighten someone’s day, then it’s time well spent.”
the hospital shared photos of his visit on its x page, praising the nhl star for creating an unforgettable day for everyone.
“for one afternoon, treatments and appointments took a back seat to smiles, laughter, and memories with hockey’s greatest trophy,” southlake’s caption read.
“to me the stanley cup means accomplishing that goal and getting to the end,” kade richardson, a patient at the hospital’s pediatric oncology clinic, said.
“it’s a special thing for me because it helps me look forward and inspires me to get to the end of my treatment, and i think it’s really special that it’s here.”

showing off the cup

each player of a championship team gets to spend a day with the stanley cup, so it shouldn’t be surprising that walker brought the trophy to georgina ice palace, where he played youth hockey.

video shared on social media by the town of georgina showed fans lined up outside the rink as they patiently — and excitedly — waited to greet the hurricanes defenceman and check out the trophy.
“from keswick to the stanley cup, fans were thrilled to celebrate hometown hockey star sean walker,” the city wrote in the caption along with the video, calling it an “unforgettable moment” and “a proud day for georgina.”
walker ended the sweet day at kawartha dairy, where the ice cream shop shared video on instagram of the visit, which showed an employee piling scoops into lord stanley’s mug and him and his family eating out of it.
“pov you bring your own cup to kawartha dairy.”
walker’s teammate taylor hall has the next turn with the cup, bringing it to bracebridge on thursday.
