scott eastwood is speaking out about his experience on the set of the 2014 film fury — specifically, about how the second world war movie had its own behind-the-scenes war thanks to one of his co-stars.
eastwood, 40, detailed his confrontation with “psychopath” shia labeouf during his appearance on monday’s “armchair expert” podcast, recalling what set the latter off.
“look, shia is clearly tormented and has maybe got some stuff going on. it was tough,” eastwood told hosts dax shepard and monica padman.
“one day, he was having an episode and thought that i shouldn’t be spitting tobacco on the tank — which was in the script,” he explained. “and then i finally said, ‘enough is enough.’
brad pitt broke things up
“i said, ‘f*** you. stop pulling your s***.’ i said, ‘i’m gonna whoop your ass,’” eastwood recounted.
it was brad pitt who had to break up the “tense moment,” he added.
the longest ride star noted that labeouf, 40, is a “very method” actor, going so far as to pull out one of his teeth and cut himself to get into character.
“i remember thinking, ‘ok. this guy’s crazy. i’m just gonna keep clear from this guy. i don’t play this game.’”
eastwood claimed it wasn’t just him and “everyone had moments with shia” on the set.
the film, led by pitt and directed by david ayer, also starred logan lerman, michael pena and jon bernthal.
eastwood played the role of sgt. miles while labeouf played boyd “bible” swan.
shia had run-ins with the law
over the years, labeouf has been in trouble with the law and gone to rehab multiple times for alcohol addiction.
labeouf pleaded guilty to three counts of simple battery in june. he reportedly received a six-month suspended sentence with two years’ probation, and was ordered to attend rehab for alcohol abuse, as well as sensitivity training and anger management classes.
what eastwood has said before of labeouf
eastwood previously detailed the “volatile” incident on the fury set during a 2022 interview with business insider.
“i never think your process as an actor should ever hinder how people are treated on set,” eastwood said at the time. “it should always enhance the production, not take away and put people in a situation where it’s a s****y work environment, or you’re rude, or people have to be in an uncomfortable situation.”
he added, “you got to put things in perspective. this is make-believe, it’s fun, and at times it’s serious and you’re doing emotional work and you give people space to do that in, but everything has to have its parameters.”
and it’s clear that the years haven’t changed eastwood’s opinion of labeouf.
“grow the f*** up,” eastwood said of his former co-star on monday’s podcast. “it’s funny. the film industry attracts psychopaths because it’s art and business and they kind of intersect.”
