a love of baseball runs in the reiner family.
rob reiner and michele reiner’s children jake and romy paid tribute to their slain parents by throwing out first pitches at a los angeles dodgers game over the weekend.
the siblings took turns on the mound, with jake, 35, throwing a decent pitch across home plate while 28-year-old romy’s toss sailed slightly wide, per people.
the siblings posed with outfielder alex call and infielder miguel rojas, who, respectively, caught their pitches.

son nick charged in their deaths

the reiner kids’ appearance ahead of the dodgers game came nearly eight months after their parents were found brutally murdered in their los angeles home on dec. 14, 2025.
the renowned director and his wife’s death certificates stated that they died within “minutes” of receiving “multiple sharp force injuries” with a “knife, by another.”
nick reiner, the couple’s middle son, was arrested that same day and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

the 32-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charges in february. he was diagnosed with schizophrenia before the killings and has had multiple rehab stints where he was treated for his mental illness and drug addiction.
nick is currently behind bars at the twin towers correctional facility in los angeles as he awaits trial. if convicted, he could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty.

jake opens up on slayings

romy — who discovered her parents dead in her childhood home — has not spoken out about her parents’ murders.
jake, however, broke his silence on their parents’ deaths in a heartbreaking substack essay in april.
“i was robbed of so many things that day,” he penned at the time. “my parents won’t be at my wedding, they won’t get to hold their future grandchild, and they won’t get to see me have the successful career i’m still seeking. it simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me.

he continued: “nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time. it’s too devastating to comprehend. i still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it’s not a dream. this truly is my living nightmare.”

for love of the game

jake also mentioned his and rob’s love of the dodgers and the sport itself.
“my connection with him was first built on baseball. it was my grandfather’s favourite sport, passed down to my dad and then to me. we loved the dodgers more than anything,” jake wrote.
“we went to so many damn games,” he added. “i’ll never go to dodger stadium again without feeling my dad’s presence and hearing his voice tell me why shohei ohtani should never bat in the leadoff spot.”

jake — who interned for the world series champions while he was in high school — opened up even more about him and his father bonding over baseball on the may 6 episode of “the incline: dodgers podcast,” of which he co-hosts.
“when it comes to the dodgers, my first love, it’s something that i’ve always connected with my dad first and foremost, and it’s something that i will continue to connect with him for the rest of my life.”
