i grew up in the philippines, where journalism never really felt like an option. but moving to canada gave me an opportunity to pursue a profession that’s meaningful and deeply connected to my community.

after a brief stint organizing conferences, i applied to the journalism program at the university of b.c.

in 2007, i landed an internship at the province and have been part of the vancouver sun/the province newsroom ever since.

my work on vancouver’s downtown eastside, the challenges facing b.c.’s aging population, and the 2017 wildfire season has been part of award-winning coverage recognized by the jack webster foundation.

in 2021, i joined the newsroom’s digital-first van live team. share a story idea with me at chchan@postmedia.com.
