the detroit red wings have signed forward jesse kiiskinen.
a former third-round pick by the nashville predators, the red wings acquired the finnish forward last year along with a second-round draft pick in a deal that sent lasalle defenceman andrew gibson to nashville.
the 19-year-old kiiskinen spent last season playing with hpk hameenlinna in the finnish elite league.
the six-foot, 187-pound kiiskinen led the team with 30 assists and 44 points and tied for third on the club with 14 goals in 46 games. he secured 19 of his points on the power play, which led also led the team, while being the top-scoring player under the age of 20 in the league.
kiiskinen, who signed a three-year, entry-level deal with the red wings, also led finland in scoring at this year’s world junior hockey championship with six goals and seven points in seven games to help the team to a silver medal.

right-handed pitcher sawyer gipson-long was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list and started wednesday road game against the chicago white sox.
the 27-year-old gipson-long had his entire 2024 season wiped out. he injured his elbow in spring training that required internal brace ucl surgery. knowing he would miss the season, gipson-long also opted for a labrum repair on his left hip.
