no one was hurt in a vehicle maintenance shop fire near kensington, p.e.i. on june 11.
at around 7:50 a.m. on june 11, the kensington fire department received a call for a fire on the old station road, just a few miles west of the town.
the fire occurred at a vehicle maintenance shop, in a building that contained a vehicle. nobody was on the premises at the time of the fire.
“it was early morning before anybody arrived,” said kensington fire chief jason paynter.
when the crew arrived, the fire was fully engulfing the building, with smoke rolling out of both bay doors, paynter said. the department was on site until around 10:30 a.m.
“it was a bit of a challenge, with a steel structure inside and outside,” paynter said. “but it was contained fairly well to where the origin was, and cleared.”
the damage was severe, said paynter. he figured it was an accidental fire, started by the vehicle having caught fire.
