nova scotia’s need a family practice registry dropped by over 6,500 in september.
the nova scotia health update on tuesday showed that, as of oct. 1, 77,526 nova scotians remain on the list.
the last published number was on sept. 1, when there were 84,069 on the registry.
the latest number accounts for those newly added to the registry, those removed because they were attached to a family doctor or nurse practitioner, or those removed because they were found to no longer need a family doctor or nurse practitioner for a variety of reasons.
the percentage of the population on the registry is 7.3 per cent, according to nova scotia health data.
the registry supports nova scotians who are looking for a primary care provider (family doctor or nurse practitioner).

i’m in my fourth decade with the chronicle herald. as a lifelong sports fan, athlete and amateur coach, the opportunity to tell the stories of nova scotia athletes has been a great pleasure. celebrating the 40th anniversary of dalhousie women's volleyball team's ciau championship, the love story of two of nova scotia's top curlers and celebrating nova scotia hall of fame inductees are a few of my favourite topics.
