the halifax jazz festival has cancelled its july 11 show following an injury in the headlining band.
in a statement posted to social media, the festival announced that broken social scene would not be taking the main stage “due to a band health-related issue.”
the band was set to headline the saturday show with nova scotia-born musician loviet opening. the show is now cancelled in its entirety.
according to a statement posted to broken social scene’s instagram, justin peroff, drummer for the toronto indie band, fell while performing in vancouver near the end of june, resulting in him going to hospital. the band said they can’t give any details regarding the issue but emphasize that it was serious enough the drummer had to be sent home “on doctors orders.”
“we got through the next two shows in calgary and edmonton by coming together for something more intimate,” the band’s post said. “however, we don’t feel right to continue without him.”
for those with tickets for saturday’s show, the festival advises that they keep an eye on their email for information regarding refunds or transferring to another festival headline show.
“we are still looking forward to celebrating our 40th anniversary with you,” a statement reads.
