who – emphasis on who – came to the rescue of a trapped owl in avon, ohio, recently?
that would be two avon police department officers by the names of steve vogel and david orlando.
the department says on the morning of july 19, “after receiving a call about an owl in need of assistance, officers vogel and orlando responded and were able to safely free the owl from the soccer net it had become entangled in. thanks to their quick actions and teamwork, the owl flew away unharmed.”

quick-thinking cops used scissors, brooms in rescue mission

video from a body cam attached to one of the officers, accompanied by instrumental music and shared by the department, shows the officers using scissors initially to cut the scared-looking, struggling owl out of the soccer net, before the animal is held down with two brooms to cut the rest of the netting off of it.
when one of the officers is finished cutting the remaining netting off the owl, he gently moves towards the animal, who then spreads its wings and flies away.
“just another example of the outstanding service the members of the avon police department provide every day—not only to our residents and visitors, but to our local wildlife as well,” said the department.
“whether it’s answering calls for service, helping those in need, or even rescuing wildlife, our officers are always ready to serve. great job, officers vogel and orlando!”
