two people were rescued from the shore of a remote lake west of whistler early tuesday after a plane crash.
according to canadian armed forces spokesman christopher hofing, the joint rescue coordination centre victoria was notified at 11 p.m. on monday that a cessna 172 was overdue in the squamish area.
“jrcc victoria immediately tasked a ch-149 cormorant helicopter and a cc-295 kingfisher aircraft from 19 wing comox to search the aircraft’s last known position and planned route west of whistler,” hofing said. “during the search, at approximately 2 a.m. on july 21, 2026, the occupants were located at seagram lake, where it is assumed the aircraft went into the water.
“the two persons were extracted aboard the ch-149 cormorant helicopter and transported to vancouver international airport and transferred to emergency health services. the search-and-rescue response has now concluded.”
