pedestrian fleeing police dies after collision in surrey

a driver of a vehicle pulled over by police died thursday night after he ran away from officers and was hit by a vehicle.
the surrey police service said in a news release on friday that the officers conducted a traffic stop of a westbound vehicle in the 15600-block 56 avenue, also known as highway 10, shortly after 10 p.m..
police allege the driver of the stopped vehicle ran from the traffic stop on foot and was struck by a vehicle travelling eastbound. despite life-saving measures by first responders, he died.
b.c.’s independent investigations office is investigation because of police involvement.
the road was closed overnight while police investigated the collision but it has reopened.
