a spiritual healer is on the lam from the toronto cops, allegedly scamming money from a believer in the afterlife.
“the accused exploited the victim’s belief in the supernatural to gain their trust,” the statement from the toronto police service said. “the accused used elaborate rituals and frightening claims to convince the victim that they, and their loved ones, would suffer death or serious harm unless they continued giving him money for his spiritual protection.”
toronto police claim that between april of 2024 and september of last year, a psychic, fortune teller and spiritual healer operating under the guise of ‘babu’ exploited the victim’s belief in the non-physical realm.

the accused was operating a business called “indian psychic and spiritual healer.”

the ‘healer’

gangadhar babu is wanted on a canada-wide warrant for fraud over $5,000; possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5,000 and laundering proceeds of canadian crime. police say the victim was scammed for more than $800,000.
police suspect that babu went back to india to escape prosecution.
the 29-year-old babu is described as five-foot-six, with a slender build, dark curly hair, dark brown eyes, a trimmed beard, and a noticeable gap between his front teeth.
investigators believe that there may be more victims of this elaborate psychic scam. anyone who believes they may have been a victim of this scam is asked to please contact police.
anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-3200, or call crime stoppers anonymously at 416-222-tips (8477).
