much of b.c.’s south coast is for a soaking this weekend, with up to 70 millimetres expected in the northern sections of metro vancouver and up to 100 mm on vancouver island.
rainfall warnings are in effect for west vancouver, north vancouver, the tri-cities area, pitt meadows and maple ridge, and for howe sound, including the sea to sky highway from squamish to whistler.
environment and climate change canada has also issued a rainfall warning for west vancouver island, north of tofino, where 80 mm to 100 mm of rain is possible.
residents in the northern areas of metro vancouver can expect 50 mm to 70 mm of rain starting saturday and continuing into sunday.
the agency says light rain or drizzle will intensify to periods of heavy rain later saturday and ease early sunday morning with the passage of the system.
water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas and visibility will likely be suddenly reduced at times, according to the warning.
weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. experts are asking motorists to allow extra time for travel.
