trump mocks 'toxic' freeland and her departure from 'governor trudeau's' cabinet

'she will not be missed!!!' he wrote in a social media post

u.s. president-elect donald trump has weighed in on social media regarding the departure of chrystia freeland from justin trudeau’s cabinet. and he did not mince words. “the great state of canada is stunned as the finance minister resigns, or was fired, from her position by governor justin trudeau,” trump wrote on his social media platform truth social, using terminology gleaned from his recent jokes about canada becoming america’s 51st state.
“her behavior was totally toxic, and not at all conducive to making deals which are good for the very unhappy citizens of canada,” he continued. “she will not be missed!!!”
trump’s comments hearken back to 2018, when freeland, then international trade minister, was leading canada in free-trade talks with the united states.
“we’re very unhappy with the negotiations and the negotiating style of canada,” trump told reporters at the time, adding: “we don’t like their representative very much.”
trump wasn’t just unhappy with freeland’s style, media at the time suggested. according to a report by the canadian press, the u.s. president had just learned that freeland had just weeks earlier participated in a panel in toronto called “taking on the tyrant” that featured a video montage with trump alongside autocrats like syria’s bashar al-assad, russian president vladimir putin and chinese president xi jinping.

the canadian press further intimated that trump has only learned of freeland’s activities from people within his own trade delegation, who were worried the president might make a quick deal with trudeau, while they wanted to continue negotiating and “wear canada down” on the issue of the dispute resolution mechanisms.
