calgary-based airline lynx air is headed towards its first collective bargaining session after the air line pilots association sent a notice to management for their intention to open negotiations on wednesday. the ultra-low cost carrier took its first flight in april 2022 and currently employs more than 110 pilots for its fleet of seven boeing 737 max 8 planes.
lynx pilots officially joined alpa on june 3 after filing for representation by the union in may.
“our goal is to reach a fair contract that recognizes our pilots’ important role in growing the company successfully,” capt. randall hulkenberg, acting master executive council for lynx pilots, said in a press release. “as management works to make our airline a choice for passengers, we need a contract that provides improvements to job security, work-life balance, and compensation to make lynx air a choice for pilots too.”
merren mcarthur, ceo and president of lynx air, said in an emailed statement they prefer to work directly with their employees but respect their pilots’ right to organize.
“we will continue to build upon our open and transparent relationship with our pilots and will work with alpa leadership to deliver on our vision to inspire more canadians to fly,” she said.
