a teenager wanted in a double murder last week has surrendered to hamilton police.
the 15-year-old boy was arrested sunday in the july 29 killing of afef binafif, 18, and abdulmalek shibli, 16.
he has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder with a firearm.
the teen, whose name and image initially had been released, can no longer be named due to the youth criminal justice act (ycja).
police said a 34-year-old woman is also charged with accessory after the fact and obstruction of police.
both accused were to appear in court on monday.
in the news release announcing the arrests, investigators also confirmed that only one firearm was discharged during the incident last wednesday morning, and that the second firearm used during the exchange was an imitation firearm.
the incident
at around 2:25 a.m. last wednesday, police responded to reports of gunshots at tabby town co-op housing at 191 candlewood dr., near rymal road east and upper centennial parkway, southeast of downtown hamilton.
officers found shibli and binafif suffering from gunshot wounds. both males were transported to hospital, where they died.
police said they believed the shooting may have been retaliation for an earlier disturbance involving bear spray at a residence in hamilton’s east end.
on july 31, cops received a judicial authorization under the ycja to temporarily publish the name and photograph of the suspect for the purpose of locating and arresting him.
police are still appealing to any witnesses to contact det. matt dugdale at 905-546-3825.
