the festivals of europe, nightclubs of las vegas, and a parking garage in downtown windsor.
the pelissier street parking garage has made a surprise appearance on the very select tour itinerary for superstar dj benny benassi, who currently has only six show dates listed on his website.
the daylong event will shut down at least one street and bring 1,200 fans into the city core.
“this is a massive move for downtown,” said ward 3 coun. renaldo agostino, a friend of benassi who helped make the show happen.
“anytime you can get a triple a artist to come to your city, it’s a big deal. as someone with such a legendary history in this city, to have him come back one more time is massive.”
the owners of prototype nightclub and 52productions are hosting the concert and afterparty.
the aug. 8 show on the ground level of the parking garage will start at 4 p.m. with local dj acts, including camden finlay, a co-owner of prototype and 52productions.
the opening acts on tour with benassi are essentia and sq4re. the headliner will spin from 10 p.m. to 12 p.m. the after show, with benassi expected to appear, will be at prototype.
pelissier street next to the parking garage will be closed off for food trucks and other local vendors.
“we’re going to have production the likes of which the city hasn’t seen in a long time in a space like that,” said brad goldring, co-owner of prototype and 52productions. “it’s going to be truly an impressive and memorable experience.”
with the grammy winner’s massive draw, organizers expect to see fans from other cities including london, toronto and detroit.

he won a grammy in 2008 for his remix of public enemy’s bring the noise, and has collaborated with artists including madonna, chris brown, john legend, ne-yo, kelis, t-pain and david guetta.
he’s on the charts again this summer with the single superstar from his new album feel the bass.
this is benassi’s first show in windsor since 2011, when he played the coming home music festival. it was an era when windsor played host to multiple major players on the electronic music scene such as steve aoki, avicii and richie hawtin, who grew up in lasalle.
“people would see the back of tour t-shirts, whether it was benny benassi or armin van buuren or deadmau5, and see that windsor was on there,” said agostino. “it made people feel a sense of pride in their city, that they were part of this.”
benassi’s windsor show is one of only three tour stops, including quebec city and toronto, he is currently scheduled to make in canada this year.
“we’re probably the smallest city on the tour,” said agostino. “but benny loves us. he loves windsor.”
tickets will be released in phases ranging up to $75. early bird tickets, on sale now, are $35. they are available at bennywindsor.ca.
