toronto police have arrested a man in a shooting early friday that left a woman dead in north etobicoke.
officers were called to the humberwood blvd. and rexdale blvd. area, west of woodbine mall, around 7:25 a.m. for reports of a female located with a gunshot wound.
duty officer scott bradbury told reporters life-saving measure were attempted but the victim died at the scene.
her identity or further information about her has not been released as police look to notify her next of kin.
police believe victim was targeted
bradbury said witnesses saw a man fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting. he said police believe the victim was targeted and that there was no extra concern for additional violence in the area. he wouldn’t confirm or deny if the incident was a domestic dispute that turned fatal.
“we feel that this is a localized issue, meaning that this woman was targeted and there is no extra risk to the neighbours,” bradbury said.
toronto police announced on x around 1:30 p.m. that the suspect had been arrested. no further details on the circumstances or his identity were immediately released.
humberwood blvd. was closed between morning star dr. and rexdale blvd. to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic for the probe.
“if you have any evidence or information, dash-cam video, video yourselves or you know someone that might be housing information on this, please call us,” bradbury said.
