kingston — the city is seeking public input to potential changes to how city council is supported.
the survey is to incorporate aspects of indigenization, inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility with the goal of removing barriers to members of underrepresented groups seeking to run in municipal elections.
“we’re committed to keeping this process open and informed by the community,” deputy city clerk derek ochej said in a news release. “feedback will help balance fairness, effectiveness and accessibility.”
the survey this year is to replace the annual review of council renumeration and instead is to look at how council workload, resourced, and supported by the administration.
full- and part-time roles are to be reviewed, as well.
the survey is to include input from council members and support staff to understand real-world circumstances.
any changes that are recommended would be put in place for the next term of council.
the survey can be completed at the city’s website and is open to the public until jan. 12.
the results of the survey and review are to be available in early 2026.
