one man faces criminal charges after a stolen school bus was purposefully crashed into a cyclist last month, calgary police say. the bus was initially stolen from a parking lot at 823 highfield road s.e. on nov. 14, police said in a statement issued monday morning, and the vehicle was recovered later the same day.
the same person is suspected of stealing the bus again from the same location around 1 a.m. on nov. 17. security camera recordings show the bus being driven in a reckless manner around 4:30 a.m., deliberately hitting a cyclist near edmonton trail and 36th avenue n.e.
“the suspect fled the scene and the cyclist sustained serious life-altering injuries,” police said.
the cyclist is continuing to recover from the incident, according to the statement. there were no passengers on the school bus at the time.
the stolen bus was recovered unoccupied on nov. 18 from a parking lot at 750 9th avenue s.e.
andrew john martyn wilson, 20, faces one charge of aggravated assault, two charges relating to auto theft, one count of failure to remain at the scene of an injury accident, and one charge of failure to comply with court orders.
