calgary police are crediting a local repair company for flagging a computer containing images of child pornography, leading to a man’s arrest. an investigation began in september, when an employee at a computer repair firm reported that a customer who dropped off a machine for service was thought to possess pornographic images with underage subjects.
“police seized the computer which contained approximately 3,600 photos of underage children,” said a statement issued by the calgary police service on thursday morning.
this led to the execution of search warrant on tuesday at a home in the 500 block of 20th avenue s.w., leading to the seizure of additional electronic devices and storage media, police said.
one man was also arrested at the scene.
fred allison bezanson, 73, of calgary, is charged with one count of possession of child pornography and one count of accessing child pornography. his next scheduled court appearance is on jan. 10, 2025.
“the investigation is ongoing as police continue to review the significant amount of material seized,” said thursday’s written statement.
