port moody police officers were called out several times to sasamat lake friday evening to deal with drunks, including a fight that resulted in a bystander getting his teeth knocked out.
shortly before 7:30 p.m., there were reports a fight involving numerous individuals at lake’s float walk at belcarra regional park.
a bystander jumped in and attempted to stop the melee. police say he sustained injuries, including the loss of several teeth.
the suspects fled before police arrived. investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed what happened.
const. sam zacharias said investigators believe the fight involved approximately 10 men in their early 20s.
meantime, port moody police were also called friday evening, where they arrested “a very intoxicated female” at the same lake who reportedly had to be carried away by officers on one of the trails.
officers also received a call about a man who went missing while out for a swim. he was later located safely.
later in the evening, officers assisted security guards with ejecting several trespassers who were refusing to leave the area hours past its closing time.
“this lake becomes quite busy in the summer months and we tend to see an uptick in calls for service,” said zacharias.
“we want to once again reiterate that there is no tolerance for consumption of drugs or alcohol at this park. we work closely with park rangers to ensure it is a safe environment for all park goers and we encourage anyone who witnesses unruly or unsafe behaviour to contact us right away.”
