students who have had to deal with the discomfort of being in a poorly ventilated classroom without air conditioning during a heat wave will get a bit of a break, and be allowed to take off their masks in class, education minister jean-françois roberge announced on monday.
“i know it has been difficult today in our classrooms,” roberge wrote on twitter. “because of the extreme heat, in addition to allowing fans and air conditioners, public health will authorize, as of tomorrow and until the end of the school year, students to remove their masks when they’re in class.”
masks are currently required of all students at all times in orange zones. under the new rule, masks would still be required in hallways and other common areas, but can be removed when students are settled at their desks.
