severe outcomes, deaths from covid-19 rise in ontario and manitoba
as the seventh wave continues, ontario is seeing more and more deaths — and this worrying trend could continue in the coming weeks, according to the latest epidemiological summary
from ontario public health.
according to the report, severe outcomes are a “lagging indicator,” which means these results often occur days or weeks after the initial
covid-19 case is reported. people over the age of 80 continue to be at the highest risk for hospitalization and death compared to other age groups.
covid-19 cases continued to increase in 25 of 34 public health units in ontario, as did the positive testing rate — up to 14.8 per cent this week from 14.6 last week. hospitalizations for covid-19 were down to 402 case this week, from 507 last week.
in manitoba, five patient deaths
associated with covid-19 occurred last week, compared to three the week before. eight people were also admitted to the icu, compared to two the week before.
similar to ontario, manitoba saw a decrease in hospitalizations due to covid, down to 45 from 52 the week before, but an increase in the positive test rate — 17.1 per cent, compared to 13.9 the week before.
nine ontarians sue government for compensation over covid-19 vaccine restrictions
the ontario superior court of justice will hear a challenge to ontario’s proof of vaccine mandate this november, according to a
news release from the justice centre for constitutional freedoms (jccf).
the lawsuit was initially launched while proof of vaccination was required in ontario, with an aim to strike the requirements down. now that vaccines mandates are all but lifted, the lawsuit has changed to seeking compensation for those who did not get vaccinated and as a result were not “permitted to continue life as everybody else did,” lawyer jorge pineda
