i work as the court reporter, covering everything from lawsuits between squabbling neighbours to murder trials and multi-million judgments in b.c. supreme court.
got my first byline buzz and freelance cheque at age 10 after sending in a one-line “story” to the winnipeg tribune (rip) for a feature called i saw that, which invited readers to send in quirks and oddities (in my case, a neighbour who shoveled his walk wearing a speedo), and i was hooked.
my second newspaper job was delivering the trib (never got to write for it). reading the comics in its pages every day engrained a daily newspaper habit, which i still indulge today after the paper lands at my door every morning.
i’m lucky or blessed to have worked doing something i still get a charge out of -- gathering interesting information and sharing it with others — each new day.
nominated twice for national newspaper awards and three times for b.c.’s webster awards.

why i love journalism
i gather information about interesting things, sometimes quirks and oddities, and tell other people about it, to inform, enlighten, hopefully sometimes help and entertain.
