having served as the general manager of the surrey 5x fest, harpo mander has been appointed the new executive director of the vancouver international bhangra celebration society (vibc).
mander held the gm position at 5x for the past three years, overseeing the development of the brand into one of north america’s leading hubs for south asian youth. since its creation in 2018, 5x has expanded into several music industry and tech initiatives as well as spearheading community development and outreach for the annual 5x festival as well as year-round initiatives.
assuming the helm at 27, mander becomes one of the youngest artistic directors of a major music event in canada. the surrey born and raised administrator believes that the time is now to showcase the depth of creative talent in the south asian community in b.c. and beyond.
“i want to put metro vancouver on the map. we have a world-class festival here and the biggest panjabi stars in the world come here to work, play and immerse themselves in this community,” said mander. “we should be celebrating that!”
mander’s team of 30-and-under talents at vibc includes marketing director bhavneet toor, 30; art director sahil mroke, 25; artist relations dhruv sk, 27, and socials coordinator gabriella presgrave, 25.
